Frequently Asked Questions About DBR

What Can I Expect From the Different Training Levels?

Each training level includes lecture, Q&A, and hands-on practicum over multiple days. Due to the nature of training and the hands-on component, all sessions must be attended live. Please double-check the dates and times for a training group before registering.

The team behind DBR have determined that small group practicum is vital for understanding and applying DBR. Participants are split into groups of three, with one person in each role: Therapist, Client, & Observer. This repeats until each group member has a chance to practice in each role at least one time, usually twice over the duration of training.

Learning objectives for each training level are available on request. Continuing Education (CE) credit hours are available for qualifying portions of training.

DBR Level 1:
Deep Brain Reorienting Level 1 training offers participants an opportunity to begin their exploration of DBR with introductory lectures about DBR's history and the key role that the midbrain plays in traumatic experiencing & sequencing.

DBR Level 2:
Deep Brain Reorienting Level 2 training offers a more comprehensive understanding of the role of midbrain-based systems in attachment pain and attachment shock – and deeper insights into the healing associated with processing sequences of shock.

DBR Level 3:
Deep Brain Reorienting Level 3 training explores how the deeper layers of the self can be affected by trauma. In DBR the focus is not on the upper-level parts of the self, such as self-states, ego-states or alters – but on the underlying emotional pain and the rage, fear, grief, and shame that deep wounding generates.

What Happens When I Complete Training?

After you complete a training level, recordings of the lecture and Q&A portions will be available to review on EEG Learn. Alongside the recordings will be quizzes and evaluations for you to complete, which qualify you to earn Continuing Education (CE) credit hours for your attendance. Once you have completed training you are encouraged to:

  • Start practicing DBR.
  • Join monthly DBR consultation groups.
  • Attend additional courses to build skills and deepen your knowledge of related concepts.
  • Work in small group mentoring with other DBR providers.
  • Join EEGer & EEG Learn's community to share and connect with other providers.

Do I Have to Complete All Training Levels Within the Same Year?

No, and the DBR team suggests taking time between training levels! They ask that you put at least 6 months between Level 2 & Level 3, and only attend if you're using DBR with at least 20% of your clients.

It is recommended to work at your own speed with learning DBR, taking the time you need to experience and understand the concepts shared at each level Ideally, this is done through practicing DBR with clients alongside other modalities. This provides a rounder understanding of DBR, helpful in advanced groups.

Is Training Online or In-Person?

DBR training with EEG Learn is completed entirely online via Zoom. Attendees will receive a meeting link to join us prior to the first session.

Recordings of the lecture and Q&A portions are available for attendees to review after the training.

All sessions must be attended live. Do not register with the intention of only reviewing the recordings. Each training level includes practicum portions that are critical for understanding and applying DBR.

Recordings will not be made available to non-attendees. If you would like to learn DBR, please register for an upcoming Level 1 group to begin.

Is Certification Available?

Attendees can receive a certificate of completion from EEG Learn. A full DBR certification process is in development, which your participation through EEG Learn will be recorded for.
