Deep Brain Reorienting Introductory Training
Bottom-Up Transformational Trauma Therapy with Dr. Frank Corrigan & Dr. Christie-Sands
VIew Upcoming TrainingsLearn the Clinical Application of DBR With Practical
Hands-On Instruction
Across three training levels, Dr. Frank Corrigan & Dr. Christie-Sands will introduce you to Deep Brain Reorienting. You will learn core theories behind the modality while working in small practicum groups with other therapists to apply what you learn. Each training level introduces new concepts to deepen your understanding of the modality.
Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) is a scientifically-based transformational therapy relying on the human brain having an inherent ability to find healing from emotional trauma.
The memory of the initiating event is approached by accessing the core of the traumatic experience in the original physiological sequence in the brainstem, giving an anchor in the part of the memory sequence that occurred before the shock or emotional overwhelm that is leading to the continuing symptoms. Deepening awareness into this orienting tension provides an anchor for grounding in the present so that the mind is neither swept away by the high intensity emotions, nor diverted into a compartment holding a self-state frozen in time in which contact with the present is lost.
Although the theory is simple, the practice of DBR can be difficult. It does not work for everyone. Therapists who will find it most useful are those who use transformational trauma therapy approaches that are body-based, or “bottom-up”. Three progressive DBR Training Levels are available which comprise underlying theory, demonstrations and practicums, with ample opportunity for feedback and questions.

Keep Me UpdatedLearning Outcomes

Develop an understanding of the neuroanatomy & neurophysiology of threat & adversity response systems in the midbrain.

Track deep sequences of shock lingering in the brain, working with these sequences until full processing has occurred.

Identify and differentiate the main components of conflicted orienting patterns in the brain's relational connections.

What Requirements Are There to Join?
DBR Training is for qualified mental health professionals with two years’ post qualification clinical experience and experience working with trauma. DBR may be most useful to therapists who use body-based or “bottom-up” trauma therapy approaches.
Each DBR Training level is sequential and must be attended in order i.e. Level 1 → Level 2 → Level 3. Each level builds upon the concepts presented in the prior level. If you have registered for a higher level without attending the prerequisite level, please contact us.
In addition to lectures, each level includes a significant portion of live practicum. This is a key part of training - you must attend all sessions live. Dr. Corrigan & Dr. Christie-Sands ask that therapists take at least 6 months between Level 2 and Level 3 trainings, and attend Level 3 only when using DBR with at least 20% of your clients.
Due to the rapid growth in DBR, there is currently limited availability and training spaces! Please only register if you are able to attend all sessions live, due to requirement of live participation. Please be mindful of the specific date and times of each training level, as they can vary between training cohorts.
Finally, the DBR trainings offered via EEG Learn are tailored for attendees joining from North & South American time zones. If you are outside of these regions, consider checking the DBR website for trainings that better fit your area.
How Does the Hands-On Portion Work?
Each training level features significant small group practicum vital for understanding DBR & applying the skills you learn. Participants will be split into groups of three, then practice DBR with one attendee in each role: Therapist, Client, & Observer. This repeats until each attendee has a chance to practice in each role.
Practicum groups are assigned randomly, but a list of attendees will be provided before the start of training. Attendees are encouraged to contact us with any conflicts that would impact assigning groups randomly. An example would be wanting to avoid being grouped with a colleague or close friend due to the sensitive nature of the practicum portions.
Guidelines and instructions on how to participate in each role are provided to attendees. Attendees should consider what personal topic they would like to work on when acting in the role of the client.
An experienced DBR-trained assistant will be available to offer guidance during the practicum portions. Additionally, Dr. Corrigan and Dr. Christie-Sands will move between practicum groups to observe and provide guidance.
DBR is a non-invasive therapeutic technique. Due to the nature of the modality, there can be residual processing needed. If you feel you need some support with residual processing during or after a session, please share with your group's assistant.
What Research & Information is Available about DBR?
You can view some research publications & additional readings on the DBR website. A selection relevant to each training level will also be provided for attendees. You can watch a series of videos with Dr. Corrigan on YouTube, here.
This is an exciting time for DBR! As more therapists & clinicians become trained in the modality, new research and information will become known. We'll share this all with attendees.
